Safeguarding
How we approach the safety and welfare of children and adults who may be at risk.
Our approach
Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. Event activities, workshops, volunteering, photography, awards and community submissions should be planned to reduce avoidable risk and to make it clear how concerns can be raised.
Immediate danger
If somebody is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services. Event staff and welfare teams can help with event-specific escalation but are not a replacement for emergency services.
Children and young people
Children remain the responsibility of their parent, guardian or responsible adult unless an activity explicitly states a different supervised arrangement. We minimise children’s personal data and use parent or guardian involvement for publishing submissions or recognition where appropriate.
Reporting a concern
A safeguarding concern should be treated separately from an ordinary complaint. Use the event’s safeguarding contact route or speak to an identifiable member of the event/welfare team on site.
